Junior sailing lessons for ages 8 to 17 as of 2012 Dec 31 is the focus for the junior sailing program. All classes are full day attendance from 9 am to 4 pm on a weekly basis from July 2 to August 17. There is a one hour break for lunch. While full day lessons are the norm this season, we can accommodate some students who are only able to attend half days. Please contact Beth for more details at 613-584-9723. Juniors do not have to have a club membership to take lessons - see Registration Form 3 - Junior Sailing Lessons.
Lessons are given by CYA-certified White Sail and Bronze instructors. Laser II, Laser, 420, Topper Topaz, Albacore and Optimist dinghies are available.
Students must have an MTO approved PFD with pealess whistle attached.
Students learn to sail through on-land training and on-water experience in laser dinghies. Students will work toward Canadian Yachting Association sailing proficiency. Building skills is an ongoing process and students acquire the levels at various paces. Minimum recommended registration is one week for WSI, two weeks for WSII and three weeks for WSIII. Students must consistently demonstrate all the skills in one season for a level to be certified. Practice time is weather dependent and can vary from day to day.
